Looking for a new cardiologist and expect them to request a Thallium Treadmill test. I would like to have some idea of who is the highest providers for this service so I consider that before choosing a new doctor.
That is a great question - I can certainly understand wanting to gather the cost information prior to services being performed to estimate your potential out of pocket cost.
As contracts with providers differ, the best way to obtain the specific cost would be to contact the provider's billing office directly.
Remember, by staying in network, you are maximizing the most from your benefit plan and can reduce your out of pocket costs.
To find a listing of in network providers you can follow the steps below:
You may refine your search by updating the zip code or radius and selecting Refine Location. You may narrow your list of in-network providers by Last Name, Provider Type, Specialty, Gender, Accepting New Patients, Affiliations or City and State. Once your option is selected click Refine Results.9. Click on the provider name you are considering. The Physician’s Details will be displayed which include address, phone number, specialty, office hours, a link to a map if you need directions to the provider’s office and a link that will let you view the provider’s organization and hospital affiliations.
Note: You must choose a provider’s location that accepts your plan to receive your in-network level of benefits. If this plan is NOT indicated, you will receive your out-of-network level of benefits.
You can check your benefit coverage via the following path:
1.Once signed into MyHumana account, hover over Coverage, and Spending, and click on Coverage and Benefits2. This will provide a high level overview of your plan benefits3. For more specifics, you can click on Coverage Details next to Medical Benefit Overview. This will bring you to your actual certificate of coverage.
You wrote around 400 words and completely ignored the question. The OP did not ask generally how to find a provider. He asked, very specifically, how to "estimate costs of a specific procedure of different local providers".
Several years ago, MyHumana.com had a tool that allowed you to look up a test or medical procedure (e.g.: FMRI, colonoscopy, hip replacement, etc.) and it would list all the places in your city that offered that test or procedure along with how much they charge. It was the medical test/procedure counterpart to the drug pricing tool. That was an essential tool for those of us who have very high deductible PPOs with HSA accounts. Now I can't find it anywhere.
So the question remains, is there a place to get a cost comparison for tests/procedures from local providers (as there once was)?
To clarify, while this tool was something Humana offered in the past, it is no longer one that is available. The information it presented wasn't in alignment with each member's benefit plan, therefore running the risk of inaccurate information being given.
As noted above, to obtain the specific cost, it is encouraged to discuss with your provider's billing office.
